Neurology is to diagnose and treat central and peripheral nervous system diseases by conducting minute neurologic exams, clinical neurophysiological tests, neuro-cognitive function tests and neuroimaging exams. In the case of the stroke care unit, in particular, doctors, nurses and therapists systematically treat strokes by making a team and sharing therapeutic guidelines. For acute-phase strokes treated in the stroke care unit, mortality and sequelae decreased by 18% and 25% respectively as compared to ones treated in the regular ward. It has been in the 1st grade on treatment for acute-phase strokes assessed by Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) every year since 2009. Furthermore, it got full marks for every item, the rate of antithrombotic administered within 49 hours, the rate of neuroimaging exams conducted within 1 hour, the rate of patients discharged with a prescription for antithrombotic, and the rate of early rehabilitation medicine.
